How does an outdoor air cooler work

Mar 06,2023
An outdoor air cooler, also known as an evaporative cooler or swamp cooler, works by using the natural process of evaporation to cool the air. The cooler draws in warm outside air through a series of moistened pads or filters. The pads are kept moist by a constant flow of water from a reservoir or a water supply line.

As the warm air passes through the moistened pads, the water evaporates and absorbs heat from the air, which cools the air. The cooler air is then blown out of the cooler and circulated throughout the surrounding area by a fan.

One of the key benefits of an outdoor air cooler is that it uses much less energy than traditional air conditioning units. This is because it does not require the use of a refrigerant or a compressor to cool the air. Instead, it relies on the natural process of evaporation to provide a cool and comfortable environment.

However, it is important to note that outdoor air coolers work best in dry climates, as the effectiveness of the cooler depends on the amount of moisture in the air. In humid climates, the cooler may not be as effective at reducing the temperature and may even increase the humidity in the air.
